"It's humane to put wounded animals out of their misery."- Adrian BlakeI got euthanasia for my AE seminar. I messaged my AE teacher and gave her my preferences. Ends up I didn't even need to. Seeing as I asked her about seminar topics in the lecture this morning, and told her I wanted to do it. So when I didn't show up for class, she remembered and put that as my choice. My second choice was capital punishment.
I'm against capital punishment, fyi. No human should have the right to take another human's life, no matter what he did. Who gives the dang person a right to decide when someone's done something bad enough to warrant death anyway? The world is overrun with dictatorial fascists who love to play God. I was for voluntary euthanasia, but I guess it would seem to be a form of suicide... Does God hold it against you if you choose to die, mainly because you're gonna be in pain for the rest of your life if you don't?
" Voluntary euthanasia has often been rejected as a violation of the sanctity of human life. Specifically, some Christians argue that human life ultimately belongs to God, so humans should not be the ones to make the choice to end life."
I guess, when you decide to legalise euthanasia, who draws the lines? Who decides what's considered euthanasia and what's considered murder? Is this another case of the people of higher authorities making decisions for the public? It can't be just black and white. You can't outlaw or legalise euthanasia- no exceptions, because every case is different. You can't go "family of those who are brain dead can choose to have their family member put down, whereas family of those in a coma cannot as said family member might still wake up." The brain dead patient is still alive. The person in comatose is still alive. If you're gonna put down a patient who's brain dead, can you similarly put down a patient who has been in a coma for the last sixty years? The family members are allowed to make this decision because they're the closest living relative, but who gives them the right to end someone else's life anyway? Really, how different is that from legalising capital punishment? Allowing Man to play God?
I think I'm only thinking this way because I do believe in a higher power. If you ask someone who doesn't believe in the existence of a god, he or she would probably have another argument.
anyway, my point is
Dear Flist, do give me your opinions on euthanasia. Good, bad, for against... Long, in depth replies are very much encouraged. Do include, if you wish, your age and religion (if any). And gender (although I actually think everyone on my flist is female...). I'm gonna see if there's any pattern. If you're on my buddy list on any online chat programs, I'll be stalking you later...
